If you like to be at the cutting edge of technology, then you have probably looked into the best electric car lease deals already. Here at Amber Vehicle Solutions we have a great range for you to choose from. However, the problem with being one of the first to adopt a new technology is that it won’t be as easy for you to find a charging point, as it is for other car drivers to find petrol stations.
Despite the fact that the number of locations with charging points has grown to 10813, they can sometimes still feel a little too spaced out for some. But don’t let this put you off looking at the best electric vehicle lease deals because we have some news to share that might just cheer you up.
Highway England, the government office that is responsible for looking after our roads, recently announced that later on this year they are going to start trialling a road surface that will charge your electric car as you drive. Yes, you read that right, and no it isn’t April Fool’s Day.
There are no exact details of what the road surface is made of yet, but they have revealed that they will be testing it on a select number of cars – which will be fitted with the necessary wireless technology. They are planning on building a small road somewhere where they can test it out safely, and it looks like there will need to be various AC/DC Convertors, power transfer loops and small sub- stations built as well.
The aim of this technology is to make the road surface as close to a normal motorway surface as possible. There is no indication as of yet, of exactly how much charge the road would give the vehicle, but it will at least extend the amount of time electric cars could last between being fully charged and the closest charging station.
As you may expect, it will take some time for the trials to be conducted, so we shouldn’t expect to see it rolled out for at least another 18 months, if not longer. Don’t worry though, Highways England have no plans to get rid of electric car charging points, and in fact they have committed to rolling out even more in the next few years.
So, with the future looking bright for electric cars, maybe the time is right for you to check out our best ev lease deals.
